About Us

Del Cockrell (9/12/1943 – 7/09/2011), the founder of American Broadcasting School, started the business in Oklahoma City in 1970.  Prior to the beginning of ABS, he worked in broadcasting for 10 years.  He recognized the need for qualified entry-level Announcers (DJ’s), Newscasters, Sportscasters, Copywriters, Production Directors, and Account Executives. Mr. Cockrell opened American Broadcasting School with 20 students per day and evening classes.

Due to high demand and national accreditation (ACCET), Del brought ABS to the world-wide web with the ABS Distance Learning Program in March 2007.

Although Mr. C is no longer with us, he left a lasting legacy through his creation, operation, and vision for American Broadcasting School.

Coming in March of 2017, the ABS OKC Campus will be celebrating it’s 47th Anniversary.
